What should you use instead of Buffer when scheduling is not the whole job?
Buffer is a well-built scheduler with a free plan, a solid queue and analytics. Magnetiq writes the posts for you and brings back the replies worth answering. Buffer assumes you already have something to schedule, and that assumption is the whole difference.
Choose Buffer when
Buffer is the better choice when you want per-channel pricing, a free three-channel plan, wide network coverage, a shared comment inbox, or you already write and just need somewhere to queue it.
Choose Magnetiq when
Magnetiq is the better fit when the writing is what stops you, and when you want to see which replies actually came to something rather than a count of comments.
The actual distinction
Buffer is where you put content you have already made. Magnetiq makes it and follows what happens next.
Migration check
If you are leaving Buffer, list what you actually use first: the channels, the queue, who approves, and the comment inbox. Magnetiq does not replace the queue, it replaces the writing.
What changes if you move
| Question | Where each one stands |
|---|---|
| Pricing | Buffer Free supports up to three channels. Its official pricing page lists Essentials at $5 and Team at $10 per channel per month when billed annually; volume discounts start above ten channels. |
| Supported networks | Buffer lists eleven or more networks. Magnetiq posts to LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Reddit. |
| Approvals | Buffer's Team plan adds roles and approvals. With Magnetiq you approve every post from the start, on every plan. |
Where Magnetiq is worse
Magnetiq has a thinner scheduling toolset than Buffer, and it cannot reply or send messages on every network because not every network allows it.
Switching from Buffer
Save this before you cancel
Your queue is the thing people forget. Buffer holds scheduled posts that vanish the moment the plan lapses, so export or screenshot anything still waiting to go out. Also note which channels are connected and who has approval rights, because you will be reconnecting accounts by hand.
What you give up
The free plan, the browser extension, and the breadth: Buffer publishes to eleven or more networks and Magnetiq to four. If you post to Instagram, Pinterest or Facebook, Magnetiq cannot replace that part and you should keep Buffer running alongside rather than cancelling it.
Your first week
Do not cancel yet. Connect one account to Magnetiq, let it write a week of posts from your business, and compare them against what you would have queued yourself. The question is not whether the scheduling is better, it is whether you would put your name on the writing.
Still deciding?
If you have not chosen yet, the full Buffer comparison covers every point side by side.
Use it on your own business first
Teach Magnetiq your business, create real drafts, and keep control of everything that publishes.
